Tonight was a test for me. I decided to use my iPhone to shoot photos and audio from the Sonic Youth show. My good friend Ross recently suffered a heart attack, so I decided to start shooting photos and to send them to him as the show went on. He’s a big Sonic Youth fan that’s going to be off the concert-going circuit for a little while, so I wanted to give him a taste “live” from the show.I apologize for all of my guinea pigs who had to suffer through my tweets and strange posts via Utterz. I wanted to see just how much I could get away with from the show. It was my first time by myself at a concert in a very long time. I believe the last show I saw alone was either Leatherface in Edinburgh, or either John Lee Hooker or D.R.I. in Toronto. Yes, I have an eclectic taste in music.Let me tip my hat (figuratively, I’m not actually wearing one) to Sonic Youth. I have seen the band a few times over the years and they are always amazing. Yes, I understand that they are certainly not everyone’s cup of tea. This post is not about why Sonic Youth are one of the most important bands of our life time (they are), it’s about my experience at the show instead.I shot a lot of photos with my iPhone. The lack of a flash sucks, everything comes out streaking, which is ideal for photos of Sonic Youth, perhaps not for your family photos. As long as you have ample light and your “subjects” will stay still the photos will come out great. The audio on the other hand really sucked, but I can’t say I’m surprised. I used Utterz to record phone messages with live recordings from the show and you can tell they were terrible. It’s too bad, but it’s not an audio recording device, so I can’t really complain.I did manage to get a direct message on Twitter on my way home from someone who wanted to join me for an after SY show beer, but I was already on the road home. So now I’m going to go to bed, because I have daddy duties in the morning. What an incredible concert, Sonic Youth are awesome.UPDATE: I wanted to write a review of the actual show, but the Nashville Scene did an excellent job summing it all up. Read their review here: Permalink.I hope you guys enjoyed the photos and my tweets through out the night.Cheers.
