I wrote a post recently about my disappointment with Meetup.com. I wanted to update you with what happened next. I got an email shortly afterward from Meetup’s VP – Insights & Strategy, Andres Glusman.

Andres emailed me to get my phone number, he then tried to ring me numerous times. We finally connect over the phone a little over a week ago. It was kind of him to reach out after my friend, Saul Colt, alerted him of my blog post.

We discussed my concerns about the missing function for a group administrator to be able to delete his or her group. He agreed that it is a valid issue which needs resolving, and he assured me it would be resolved soon.

Andres also spoke of the community building aspect of Meetup. My friend, Kelly Stewart’s Nashville Hiking group is a prime example of this. I suggested they consider creating a discount version of their service for BarCamp and PodCamp organizers (both are community focused free events), he seemed to like that idea.

I’m impressed that Andres went out of his way to contact me (even calling me on the weekend). Hat tip to Meetup for following up. He promised to keep me in the loop on group deletion. When a fix is in place I’ll be sure to let you know.

I had the good fortune today to share the stage at the Leadership Music Digital Summit in Nashville. I was invited to sit on a panel with some amazing minds to discuss Nashville’s technology community.

The program described the session…

CONNECTING IN MUSIC CITY
As a worldwide hub for music, Nashville incubates incredible talent and exceptional ideas; this segment leads to organizations and events where technology and the entertainment community intersect. Learn where to network, collaborate, brainstorm, innovate, and startup.

I had a great time answering my friend, Kelly Stewart‘s questions and listening to the answers provided by my co-panelists; Elin Eifler Mulron, Mark Montgomery, J. Tod Fetherling and Nicholas Holland.

Elin and I met for a coffee when she first got to Nashville some time ago, we had a great chat about the community here and about her idea of building Digital Nashville. It’s been a great success and is something I plan to attend more often in the future.

Mark’s company, Echo, sponsored the first BarCamp Nashville. He’s always been available for a chat at Fido, I’ve appreciated that. He’s a guy I’d love to get to know better.

J. Tod spoke at BarCamp Nashville 2 about taking the Nashville Technology Council in a different direction. NTC has always been thought of as a suit ‘n tie kind of crowd, but I believe J. Tod is the guy who will build the membership and take it to another level. He truly cares about the tech scene here.

Nicholas has shown his support by using his company, Centresource, to sponsor BarCamp Nashville 2 and Start Up Weekend. He’s a solid guy and a fun person to be around.

I recorded our discussion with my trusty iTalk Recorder app (shameless plug for Griffin :-).

Have a listen here or download the file to listen on your own time, it’s about an hour long. Please let me know what you think.

It seems like just a few days ago when a small group of us met at a restaurant in Brentwood to talk about plans for BarCamp Nashville 2. This year Marcus, Kelly and I decided to pass the torch to some new and old friends to take over organizing the big event.

I’ve had the pleasure of sitting in on a few of the planning meetings this year, I must say you’re in good hands. This is going to be one heck of a fun day that no one in Nashville should miss.

If you have any interest in technology, I highly recommend you plan to attend BarCamp Nashville 2 at the Sommet Center on October 18 from 9 – 4. Did I mention it’s free?

My session is called Microblogging: Fast, Fast, Good, Good. I plan to use some stories on the speed and efficiency of microblogs such as Twitter, followed by some examples of how we can use microblogging for good.

Do you have any examples of how Twitter is fast or good? I’d love to hear your stories.
