Essential public speaking and presentation tips

I love public speaking, I’m no Mitch Joel, Scott Schwertly or Garr Reynolds, but I like to think that I’m half decent.

It was after seeing Garr Reynolds speak that I got excited about giving it a shot. He was even kind enough to give me a copy of his fantastic book, Presentation Zen: Simple Ideas on Presentation Design and Delivery (affiliate link). I highly recommend it for anybody interested in public speaking or improving their presentations.

Speaker-Up

Last night in Nashville, Kate O’Neill, Lucas Hendrikson and the team planning the fourth BarCamp Nashville (Oct 16th) held the first Speaker-Up.

The event was designed to prepare and inspire potential speakers for BarCamp, but the discussion really covered so much about public speaking and presentation skills that I want to share it here with you.

Can’t see the video?

Were you there? What did you take away from the event? What’s your number one tip for public speaking?

  • I had a blast being on the panel, and it was great to see so many people interested in giving a presentation. To everyone reading this in Nashville – don’t forget sign-ups are tomorrow (Friday) at some time to be determined then.
