Nashville Technology Calendar

Photo by: kesoDuring BarCamp Nashville I enjoyed being on David Ledgerwood’s State of the Community: The ‘Venn Diagram’ of Nashville’s Tech Organizations panel.

One thing I brought up is a need for a single, universal, open calendar of technology events for our community and for visiting geeks to access.

Tod Fetherling has been doing a good job with his calendar on the Nashville Technology Council‘s website, as has Elin Mulron’s calendar on Digital Nashville.

But I think we need something simple that everyone can access and subscribe to in GCal and iCal. When a change is made to said calendar, that change will appear for everyone subscribed.

Here’s my stab at this. Subscribe by choosing XML iCal or HTML. Or visit the Nashville Technology Calendar directly.

You can embed the calendar in your blog using the following code:

<iframe src=”” style=”border: 0″ width=”800″ height=”600″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”></iframe>

To prevent spam I am only giving access to edit this calendar to a select number of people who have items to add regularly. Please let me know if you have something you wish to add. If you plan on adding items frequently please contact me for editorial access.

I encourage you to leave me comments here. Your feedback is needed to be sure this works. Thanks.

Thanks Dave, this will be very helpful.

  • Only if items are added frequently. I hope so. Thanks Keith.

  • I agree – if it's used frequently and by a large group it will be very useful. I don't often log into Digital Nashville and (gasp) don't often read through the event emails so something simple and wikified might be worth a shot.

  • Thanks Eric. What's great is that you can import this to your Gmail calendar
or iCal. You can also subscribe to it via RSS and subscribe to email updates
if you prefer. I don't think you can miss any event in this town, as long as
everyone uses this. That's the key part.

  • Great idea! May I have access to add Enterprise LAMP Users Group meetings and info about the Enterprise LAMP Summit & Big LAMP Camp? Thanks, Dave.

  • Thanks Betsy. For sure.

Dave, any ideas on how to push my RSS to the calendar so I don't have to re-type so many events?

  • I don't know off hand. Hmmm…

  • Jessica Murray

Thanks for doing this for our tech community!

  • Happy to help, but it'll only work if we all use it. I hope everyone thinks
    it's a good idea.

This is great – thanks for doing this Dave.

  • Gavin

    Love it!

  • Thank you.

  • Gavin

    Love it!

  • Thank you.

  • I agree that this is a good and needed idea, Dave. As you’ve alluded, what will make it succeed is consistent attention and TLC for the calendar over time. It will only work if we all keep going back to it and make an effort to keep it current.

  • Dave, this is a great idea. I'd like to get the Geek Social on the calendar as a reoccurring event, but it might not be straight forward because we occasionally, like once a quarter, change venue from the Flying Saucer to the First Center. I'm happy to maintain our event on the calendar if that helps.

  • Awesome Ben! Cheers.
Please email or DM me your Gmail address, so I can give you access to
    the calendar.
