I love a good rant, but I'm just tiring of his style. There's also plenty of
depth and thought on Twitter, it's just in micro messages.

Cheers.

I like Jon's piece. I agree with his points that its not the amount of information or access that's lacking but the level of depth and thought. What's wrong with the old guy ranting a little bit?

Wasn't the whole point that the Daily Show was supposed to be out of it on the Twitter front? I think they had a good point that most of the congressional tweets were distracted and showed that lawmakers weren't paying attention. And Samantha Bee, like their other correspondents, always plays something of a dimwit.

I think it's good satire, personally. In many respects, the media do seem to be clinging to Twitter and other bits of social media like it's the last life preserver in the ocean.

If The Daily Show does indeed think their audience is smart, then maybe they figure we're in on the joke even if we do use Twitter. And Stalker. And Grunter. And video blog our every moment. --> Taking things to an extreme is classic comedy, is it not?

I think it's pretty sharp satire, really. Sometimes it seems like the media *are* jumping all over Twitter like it's the last flotation device with any chance of saving their jobs. And there's a lot of inane crap in their feeds, as The Daily Show used in some of the samples above. I'm sure some of that is out of context, but then I've seen social media boosters making positive examples of out-of-context samples, too.

On the "dumbing down" complaint... Maybe they're not dumbing it down at all, but in fact are assuming most of their audience knows exactly what they're talking about. If we can't make fun of Twitter and the over-reporting minute details of every imaginable event, what do we have left? (Well, a lot, actually... but the media makes this one easy.)

I disagree, but to each his own. I think The Daily Show has always been very well written, it's just that Jon Stewart is going a little old to me. It's only lately that the writing doesn't seem as fresh to me.

I'm a long time fan of Stephen Colbert, I've been watching the show since the start. While it began a little weak, I think he has really found himself. I don't think I have ever watched an episode without laughing out loud several times.

What don't you like about them?

both shows on comedy central are lame. this one has gone more down hill in recent years. Colbert has never been funny to me - and i hate watching him in interviews because no matter how hard you try to get an honest answer out of him he feels he has to live up to this ridiculous persona he's created for himself on TV.

Comedy Central has come a long way from the indie network it once was, and has a long way to go if they ever plan on being good again.
